RESIDENTS of Bukit Bandaraya, Kuala Lumpur, are unhappy that the monsoon drain along Jalan Damansara (Sprint Highway link) is clogged with silt.
Bukit Bandaraya Residents Association president Datuk Mumtaz Ali said the accumulation of silt would trigger flash floods during heavy rain.
“The silt will be washed downstream and this caused floods in places like Universiti Malaya,” he said.
Mumtaz said the monsoon drain could have been affected by the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line project.
He said the party that caused the siltation problem should clean up the drain.
Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said there was no longer construction work by the company along the Sprint Highway.
Its strategic communications and stakeholder relations director, Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah, said the contractor involved in the building of the MRT line had cleaned up the siltation after completing the rail project.
“The construction work has been completed and clean-up of the drain has been done,” he said.
Najmuddin said former MRT construction sites had been beautified with landscaping.
“We have pointed out to the Environment Department that there are other construction projects in the area, and this may have resulted in silt being washed into the drain,” he said.
