Residents say this terrazzo concrete bench at the Taman Sri Damai flats in Batu Lanchang, Penang, was damaged a few years ago.

GEORGE TOWN: A damaged terrazzo concrete bench located next to a mini football field at the Taman Sri Damai flats in Batu Lanchang near here is an eyesore and a danger to children and passers-by.

The acronym MPPP (Penang Island Municipal Council) on the bench, suggests that it was placed there at least five years ago.

A resident, who declined to be named, said it was damaged several years ago but MBPP had not taken the initiative to replace it.

“Their workers are always here, especially on weekdays, to clean the pavement and the vicinity.

“Why didn’t they highlight this to the local council?

“It is broken and poses a danger to people.

“What if someone accidentally falls and hits the sharp edges of the bench? Who will be responsible?”

MBPP secretary Yew Tung Seang told ‘Actionline’ that he would order his personnel to remove the damaged bench.

“We will remove it as the safety of the people is our priority. As for replacing it, we will do it if the residents ask for it.”
