GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has called on Penangites to share ideas and views with him in order to chart the future development of the state.

In his National Day message, Chow said ideas and views of the people are crucial in mapping out the direction of the state, under the Penang 2030 vision.

He had unveiled his 12-year action plan themed “A Family-Focused Green and Smart State to Inspire the Nation” yesterday.

The policy package is the state’s four-prong vision to increase livability to enhance quality of life, upgrade the economy, empower the people to strengthen civic participation an invest in the built environment.

"More needs to be done, through numerous initiatives and approaches, to ensure the Penang 2030 becomes a reality.

"As such, I urged all Penangites, wherever you are, to come together to help me achieve this vision of making Penang a model state for the country and even the world.

"I believe this is the best present from Penang for Malaysia," he said in his message, on his Facebook page.

Elaborating, Chow said Penang, under Pakatan Harapan for the last 10 years, had achieved numerous successes and attained countless of accolades.

"We continue to be the preferred choice for investors, as well as tourists, both from inside and outside the country," he added.

Meanwhile, Chow said this year's National Day celebration will be more meaningful as Malaysians have created history by voting out Barisan Nasional which has governed the country since 1957.

"GE14 witnessed how brave Malaysians banded together to choose a new government...a new Malaysia.

"Now, we can hold our heads up high and place our hopes in the new Malaysia. This is the true meaning of patriotism and not merely to shout 'Merdeka'." he stressed.
