IPOH: Police have identified all five people who were burnt to death in a crash involving a trailer and a car at KM255.6 of North-South Expressway northbound, near Menora Tunnel, on Saturday.

Perak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Superintendent Ahmad Adnan Basri, said the victims were the car driver, Yew Poi Shy, 37 and her son, Yew Yi Chen, one.

The other three were; front passenger Teo Wee Tatt, 46, and two female passengers Shaw Swee Me, 42 and Lee Len Ying, 60.

He said their identities were confirmed following DNA tests conducted by the Chemistry Department in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Meanwhile, as for the 41-year-old lorry driver, blood and urine tests conducted revealed traces of amphetamine, methampetamine, diphenhydramine dan chlorpheniramine.

“The suspect will be charged today (Friday) at the Kuala Kangsar magistrate's court under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act for driving under the influence of drug and causing deaths."

It was reported that in the 11.45am incident, the trailer lorry, laden with iron ore, had lost control and collided with a car. The trailer was headed for Penang from Johor Baru.

The car, carrying five people, was dragged by the trailer and slammed into a divider before erupting in flames.
