PETALING JAYA: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) today confirmed that the testing of a B sample for a doping case involving national Under-23 goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Hazmi Mohamed was done yesterday (Monday, February 12) after the A sample test that was done during the 2018 AFC Under-23 Championship in Changshu, China was confirmed to be positive for the banned substance, metabolite methandienone.
Syihan, 22, was picked to undergo a doping test after Malaysia’s first group C match against Iraq at the Changshu Stadium on January 10.
Syihan did not play throughout the championship because national Under-23 head coach Ong Kim Swee fielded Ifwat Akmal Chek Kassim for the match against Iraq and Haziq Nadzli for the remaining three matches Malaysia played until the quarter-final 2-1 loss to South Korea.
According to FAM secretary general, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, FAM received A letter from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on February 6 which stated that Syihan had tested positive for metabolite methandienne, a banned substance listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) from testing of the A sample taken on January 10.
“Following this, AFC’s ethics and disciplinary committee chairman decided that Syihan is guilty under article 6 of AFC’s anti-doping rules and has been slapped with a 60 day temporary suspension from taking part in any football activities including domestic matches, friendly matches and official matches.
“Effective immediately, Syihan is barred from featuring for his team Negri Sembilan beginning with the second Super League match against Kuala Lumpur at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi last Wednesday (February 7) even though he had played in the first match against PKNP FC on February 3.
“Syihan has requested that his B sample be tested and it has been done yesterday, so now all we have to do is wait for the result if it remains positive or negative instead,” said Hamidin via a statement released earlier today.
AFC will take further action after receiving the official result of the B sample test and for now, Syihan will not be able to play for Negri Sembilan throughout the 60 day suspension period,” Hamidin added.
